Consumer Terms of Service
Last updated June 30, 2026
Joyn helps you make plans and chat with friends in private, group, and activity conversations. These Consumer Terms of Service (the terms) are an agreement between you and Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, a sole proprietorship (enkeltpersonforetak) registered in Norway (Joyn, we, us, or our), and they govern your use of the Joyn iOS app and our companion website at joynevents.com.
By creating an account or using Joyn, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Joyn.
Joyn is currently in closed/private testing and is still being built, so some things may change. Access may require an invite or availability through Apple's testing or distribution channels. We explain what that means for you below. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your information and is part of your agreement with us.
1. Who we are
Joyn is operated by Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, a sole proprietorship registered in Norway (organisation number 926 450 042), located at Husebyskogen 74, 1570 Dilling, Norway. You can reach us at support@joynevents.com.
When we say the service, we mean the Joyn iOS app, the website at joynevents.com, and the features we offer through them. The website supports selected companion features, such as signing in, viewing and claiming invites, viewing activity pages, RSVP/voting/posting/messaging where available, and managing basic profile details.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 13 years old to use Joyn. If the laws where you live set a higher age of digital consent, you must meet that higher age.
By using Joyn, you confirm that you meet the minimum age, that you are able to enter into a binding agreement, and that you are not barred from using the service under any applicable law.
If you are using Joyn on behalf of someone else, or you let someone else use your account, you are responsible for making sure they follow these terms.
3. The service
Joyn is a social planning and messaging app for friends. Depending on the feature, you can:
- In the iOS app, send messages with text, images, GIFs from Klipy, reactions, @-mentions, replies, and read status/read receipts where enabled. The web companion supports activity chat text where available.
- Create planned events and lightweight hangouts. Events can have one or more occurrences, including recurring series; hangouts are lightweight conversation-bound activities.
- Collect RSVPs per occurrence and run time-polls so invited people can vote on when to meet.
- Share activity updates/posts, comments, and activity photos with activity guests, and react to posts, comments, messages, and photos where available.
- Add friends, send and accept friend requests, create group chats with friends, share event or friend invite links, and block or report other users or behavior.
- Search for places using Apple MapKit.
- Receive push notifications.
- Optionally add and keep Joyn activities updated in Apple Calendar. Where permitted, Joyn may read calendar events for display/context, but Joyn activity changes sync to calendar, not the other way around.
- Use Joyn's AI features, as described below.
Pre-release and beta
Joyn is in closed testing. This means the service is still under active development, may contain bugs, may be unavailable from time to time, and may change significantly. We may add, change, or remove features at any time, and the service is provided on an as is and as available basis (see the disclaimers below).
Free of charge
Joyn is currently free to use, and the companion website has no checkout flow. We may introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future, but any paid feature will require a separate purchase or consent flow.
4. Your account and security
To use Joyn you need an account. During closed testing, account creation may require a valid invite link or availability through Apple's testing or distribution channels. In the iOS app, you can create or access an account using Sign in with Apple with your Apple ID or an email one-time code (OTP), without creating separate Joyn account credentials. Sign in with Apple and email one-time code sign-in are available on the website where configured.
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your credentials secure. In particular, you agree to:
- Provide accurate account and profile information where Joyn asks for it, and keep it reasonably up to date.
- Keep your sign-in links, one-time codes, and Apple ID credentials confidential.
- Not share your account or let others use it.
- Tell us promptly at support@joynevents.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
You are responsible for activity that happens under your account, except to the extent it results from our failure to meet our own obligations.
5. Acceptable use and community rules
Joyn is meant for staying in touch and making plans with people you know. To keep it safe for everyone, you agree not to:
- Harass, bully, threaten, or abuse anyone.
- Post or share content that is illegal, hateful, or that exploits or endangers others.
- Send spam or unwanted bulk messages.
- Infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
- Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent who you are.
- Attempt to break, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, scrape, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its systems.
- Use the service to violate any applicable law or regulation.
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on Joyn. Content that is objectionable, and users who engage in abusive behavior, may be removed without notice.
You can block users you do not want to interact with, and you can report other users or behavior that breaks these rules. We use a combination of automated content-moderation tools and human review to assess reports. Content involving clear and serious violations may be hidden automatically, while less clear or higher-stakes reports are sent to a person; either way, you can ask us to take another look at a decision. We record reports and the moderation decisions we make, and may act on them, but we cannot promise a specific timeframe or outcome. How reported content is processed is described in our Privacy Policy.
If you break these rules or the law, we may use reports and other available information to decide what action to take. That can include removing content or suspending or terminating access where lawful and necessary, as described in the suspension and termination section below.
6. Your content and the license you grant
Joyn lets you create and share content, including messages, activities, activity posts, comments, activity photos, and profile information (your content). As between you and us, you own your content.
To operate Joyn, we need your permission to handle your content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, and display your content solely to operate and provide the service to the people you share it with. For example, we may deliver messages to conversation participants, show activity posts and photos to activity guests, and store photos so they sync across your devices. This license lasts only as long as we need it to provide the service, and it ends when you delete your content or your account, except where the content has already been shared with others or where we must keep it to meet a legal obligation.
You are responsible for your content. By sharing content on Joyn, you confirm that you have the rights to share it and that doing so does not break these terms or the law.
7. AI features
Joyn offers AI features, including an app-wide private assistant, private pull-aside assistant threads anchored to chats you can access, and per-conversation AI agents. A conversation can have up to 5 AI agents.
The assistant can prepare draft or confirmation cards for actions you review and confirm, such as drafting or sending a message, creating or updating an activity, adding an occurrence, changing guests, RSVPing to an occurrence, or preparing a restaurant table booking request. It cannot currently cast time-option poll votes or finalize polls.
In conversations with AI agents, a participant may trigger an agent by mentioning it or replying to it. The agent's response may be visible in that conversation and may use conversation context available to the triggering participant.
How the AI works
Joyn's AI features use OpenAI's API. When you use AI features, Joyn sends the relevant prompt, conversation or app context, tool instructions, and tool results needed to generate a response to OpenAI.
To personalize private assistant responses, Joyn may store personal AI memories. You can view, edit, delete individual memories, or clear all memories in the app.
Daily and weekly per-user AI usage limits apply. If you reach a limit, AI features may be limited until the relevant daily or weekly limit resets.
Restaurant booking support, when available, only prepares and sends a table request after your confirmation. Joyn may submit an official form or email a request, but it does not see live availability or track final restaurant confirmation.
AI outputs and your responsibility
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. You are responsible for reviewing AI output before you rely on it or act on it, and for any actions you confirm through the assistant. Review AI suggestions and any draft or confirmation card before relying on it or confirming an action. Messages, activities, RSVPs, booking requests, and other app actions are not completed until the app shows that the relevant action has been confirmed or completed.
AI output is not professional advice. Do not rely on it for legal, medical, financial, or other professional matters, and consult a qualified professional where appropriate.
8. Messaging and notifications
Joyn is a messaging service, so sending and receiving messages is a core part of how it works. When you message other people, participants in that conversation can see and may keep what you send. Read status or read receipts may show when messages are seen, depending on conversation type and settings.
Joyn may send push notifications, including for new messages, activity updates, guest RSVP changes, and RSVP reminders. You can manage iOS notification permission in device settings and Joyn notification categories in the app. We may also send service or account emails. Supabase Auth handles standard auth emails such as email one-time code delivery; Resend is used for notification fallbacks and other transactional emails where implemented.
9. Third-party services and the Apple App Store
Joyn relies on third-party services to operate. These include:
- Supabase for authentication, database/RPC access, private file storage, realtime updates, and backend Edge Functions.
- OpenAI for AI generation in Joyn's AI features.
- Apple for Sign in with Apple, APNs push notifications, Apple Calendar, MapKit, and the Apple distribution channel through which you received the app.
- Klipy for GIF search.
- Resend for notification fallbacks and selected transactional emails.
These providers have their own terms and privacy practices, and your use of their services may be subject to them. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
Apple App Store terms
If you download Joyn through the Apple App Store, your use of the app is also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the EULA), except where these terms are more restrictive, in which case these terms apply.
You acknowledge that:
- These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not a party to these terms.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content, and for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection or similar law, to the extent these terms and applicable law require.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and Apple has the right to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
10. Intellectual property
The service itself, including the Joyn name, the app, the website, our software, and our designs, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not give you any rights in the service except the limited right to use it as allowed here.
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the service for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the service except as expressly permitted.
Your rights in your own content are described in the section on your content above.
11. Privacy
We care about your privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with (including the third-party services listed above), and the choices and rights you have. By using Joyn, you agree to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Suspension, termination, and account deletion
Deleting your account
You can start account deletion in the iOS app under Profile → Security → Delete account. Deletion removes your push tokens, profile, and auth account when the flow can complete, and database rules delete or detach related rows such as messages, posts, comments, reactions, RSVPs, blocks, reports, AI memories, and AI history. For activities you host, if another co-host exists, Joyn promotes the oldest co-host so the plan can continue; some shared activity or guest records may remain without your account attached.
Suspension and termination by us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the service, restrict account access, or remove content if you break these terms or the law, if we need to protect the service or other people, or if we are required to do so. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will give you notice.
Either you or we may end this agreement at any time. When your account is terminated, your right to use the service stops. Some parts of these terms by their nature continue to apply after termination, including the sections on your content license that is needed to provide the service, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law and disputes.
13. Disclaimers
Joyn is in closed testing and is provided on an as is and as available basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that it will meet your requirements, and we do not warrant the accuracy or reliability of any content, including AI output. You use the service at your own discretion and risk.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us to use the service in the 12 months before the claim (if you have paid us nothing, this amount is zero) or EUR 100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
15. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms or the law. We will let you know about any such claim and may participate in its defense.
16. Changes to the service and these terms
Because Joyn is still being built, we may change, add, or remove features, and we may change these terms from time to time. When we make a material change to these terms, we will update the date at the top and let you know through the app, by email, or by other reasonable means before the change takes effect.
If you keep using Joyn after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree to a change, you should stop using the service and may delete your account.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Any dispute relating to these terms or the service will be resolved in the Norwegian courts, and you and we agree to that venue, except where mandatory law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere, such as in the courts of the country where you live.
Nothing here affects any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws in your country.
18. How to contact us
If you have questions about these terms, you can reach us at support@joynevents.com, including from the app's Profile → Legal and support section, or by mail at Kasper Fellkjær Thoring, Husebyskogen 74, 1570 Dilling, Norway.
